Music video doesn’t do justice to song

    Marguerite Alberts, Staff Writer
When looking at a picture of Scotty McCreery, one certainly does not expect such a deep southern voice to come out of his mouth. Not only was McCreery awarded the Academy of Country Music (ACM) award for New Artist of the Year on Sunday night and winner of the tenth season of American Idol, but his debut album, Clear As Day, was certified platinum for sales of more than 1 million units in three months and was named No. one on Billboard Magazine’s list of “Top New Country Artists For 2011.”
The artist has a very deep voice and there is no wonder why he won the ACM award. “The Trouble With Girls” is a song that both teenage boys and girls can relate to. Guys will relate to it because many of them share the same feelings. Girls will like the song because not only is the song sweet unlike plenty of other songs about the same topic, attraction to girls, are, but McCreery is rather cute as well.
However, despite the hype about the song, the music video for “The Trouble With Girls” does not do the music justice. The video is set in high school, as McCreery himself is just 18. The problem with this video is that it didn’t really represent the subject of the song. McCreery sings about the way that girls affect him and what features he likes in the girl, but the entire video was more focused on McCreery. In between shots of him singing in an empty corridor there are shots of his interactions with girls, but they don’t correlate with what he is saying. It would have been better if there was less McCreery and more focus on a few particular girls that were of his interest. The entire video is a cliche. To conclude, buy the song because it has a sweet melody that works well with his deep and soothing voice, but don’t pay for the video.
