Varsity girls water polo puts up fight in final game of season

Ben Shofet, Business Manager
In their final game of the season, girls water polo, lost 6-11 against Culver City on Thursday Feb. 10.
“I am really proud of the team’s performance,” junior Veronica Karlin said. “Even though we didn’t win, I think we improved a lot. There were some awesome goals and great defensive plays. Culver usually scored on counter attacks.”
The entire game was close until the fourth quarter, when Karlin was ejected along with one of her teammates, forcing them to play with five players rather than the north six.
“It was annoying but kind of funny because I’ve rarely been ejected the whole season. I just felt bad for the team because we were short a player,” Karlin said.

Despite having been their last game of the season, a majority of the girls will be returning for another season on varsity water polo, according to varsity captain Melissa Roberts.
“The future of girls water polo is really strong. I believe they have the means to be a great winning team next year. While the loss of Ada Nadzakova and I may see major now, I believe next year’s team has some amazing potential and I cannot wait to come back and see them dominate,” Roberts said.
As the water polo season comes to a close a large number of those returning will be joining the swim team to keep in shape.
