Desiree Gonzalez staff writer

In celebration of science and students’ passion for the subject, the Beverly Hills Education Foundation sponsored the annual Science and Engineering Fair in the EDC on Wednesday, Nov. 8, where students were required to develop a scientific question, run experiments and create a board that summarized their work.

After judges interacted with the students and assessed their projects, an award show was held at the Salter Theater. High schoolers had the chance of winning college scholarship money and middle schoolers an Apple watch. Other participants were given trophies and medals.

Taking first place as overall winners in high school were Noah Pals and Sienna Wolfe, who created a project on reducing overdose deaths from prescription medicines. Connie Chang, Y-Thien Lam and Julie Wang placed second for their project on biodegradable plastic, and Gagan Mannur placed third for his project on organic plant cell material used for regenerative human cells.

The overall winners are planning on submitting to the the county fair, along with the middle school winners. Although these students were the overall winners, many other participants won awards as well in their group project section. See below for a list of the High School and Middle School participants awarded and their projects.
