Normans’ theater season is coming back soon. The performing art department is keen to continue its success of last year’s performance of Fiddler on the Roof, which was about the Russian Jewish tradition during the pre-Revolutionary era, with the immortal American classic, Grease.

Grease, composed by two American musical composers, Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey in 1971, has kept its famous reputation for a long time, having been modified by Broadway production in New York, and also Hollywood production with well-known stellar actor, John Travolta. The title Grease is named for the late 20th Century’s American working class youth subculture known as the greasers. In the 90’s, Grease was known as a symbol of aggressive rebellion and liberated teenagers, causing a massive influence in society. The musical is mostly about love, friendship, teenage rebellion, sexual exploration during adolescence, and conflict between classes. The story deals with the 50’s California teenagers’ love stories between two groups, Danny Zuko’s T-Bird and Sandy Olsson and Pink-Lady. The musical carries a deep yet casual theme of teenagers’ spirited and dynamic love in high school.

The heat of expectation from students in school has been already aroused. “I have been always excited to both see and participate in school performance events. This year, I am really excited to see how my fellow madrigals and other friends will do,” senior madrigal-singer Cheyenne Weinstein said.

Grease is an amazing American classic. Not only the dances are fun, but also the songs are great. The sweet theme of teenagers’ love is casually portrayed in this show. Grease means more than just a musical; it captures the life and dream of that era,” junior performing art student Cleo Egnal said.

One of the most anticipated and unforgettable events of year, the theater performance is still in development. The list of casts and show dates are expected to be released very soon.

Undoubtedly, one of the most successful American classic musicals, Grease, is expected to bring a feverish passion to teenagers and sweet recollections to parents and other family members.
