The swimming team beat Torrance High School Thursday, April 6, in their second meet of the season. All four age groups, girls and boys JV and girls and boys varsity, won a majority of their respective events.
Varsity boys beat Torrance 85.5-84.5, varsity girls won 106-63, JV boys won 81-63 and JV girls beat Torrance 83-70.
Varsity co-captain Sara Okum encourages her teammates to continue to work hard during practice in order to lead the entire team to victory during preseason and league, but mentions that the individual swimmer’s will to work hard eventually leads the team to success.
“Swimming is a team sport, but the way we can win a meet is through individual events. Everyone has to train hard to be successful in their events in order to help the whole team continue to league. It’s ultimately your mindset that determines whether you can improve your time,” Okum said.
Varsity co-captain Josh Fouladian is proud of his team’s overall success and continues to preach practice to prepare the team for their upcoming league.
“Practice, practice, practice [is key]. Getting in the water as much as possible is very important to our team’s success,” Fouladian said.
Okum plans on working with her co-captain Fouladian to ensure practice is a priority for the teams moving into league.
“Josh and I try to encourage everyone to come to practice, try their hardest, and have a positive mind set. Encouraging practice is really the only thing we can do to prepare swimmers for league. Once they are on the blocks, it comes down to their own hard work and their drive to push themselves,” Okum said.
The swimming team’s next meet is away at Royal High School on Saturday, April 8.
