The girls varsity volleyball team lost by a score of 3-0 against the Lawndale Cardinals on Thursday September 27. Losing this match eliminated the team from playoff contention. Although the game didn’t end with a victory, the team’s energy maintained high throughout the game.

“We’re a young team trying to get the program back on track, so we still have a lot of work and improvement to do. With matches to be played, where we can still get a win and show some success, that’s [the teams’] new goal,” Coach Marla Weiss said.

During set two the team had serve issues because they are still working to adjust to their new starting setter, Leora Yektafar. Their old setter Katie Wu is injured not able to play for the season.

“I feel like everyone has to adjust my sets because they are not the same as Katies and not as consistent but I’m working on it and learning a lot from her,” Yektafar said.

The team’s dynamic started to improve toward the third set. They earned more points keeping their scores close to the opposing team, 21-25.

“I don’t feel the best about [the outcome of the game] but I thought we were more connected and played really hard towards the end, we really gave it our all,” junior Angela Bradbury said.

The team still has hope for the rest of their season, even though they didn’t make it to the playoffs. They stress that they need to improve on hitting their goals and having bigger serves.

“[Missing the play offs] means that we still have to play our hardest,” Bradbury said. “Even though we may not have a shot at playoffs but we should still do our best at every game.”

Their next home game will be on Wednesday October 3 at 3:15 p.m. against El Segundo eagles.
