The marching band and color guard were set to march in a parade at Disneyland on Nov. 29, but the performance was cancelled on Nov. 28 due to rain forecasts throughout the day. This is the marching band’s second parade performance cancellation in the month of November, the first being cancelled as a result of the poor air quality caused by the Woolsey Fire.

In an email sent to the band and color guard, instrumental music teacher Bill Bradbury detailed why the performance was cancelled.

“Due to the inclement/rainy weather forecast, we will not be travelling and performing at Disneyland,” he wrote. “I believe that if we are not able to perform for any reason, we won’t be meeting the educational purposes set forth for this performance.”

Marching band members were disappointed at the news of cancellation. Assistant Drum Major sophomore Maryann Han says she was ready to go to Disney regardless of the weather.

“I’m disappointed and I know many of my friends are too,” Han said. “A lot of us were willing to go to Disneyland even if it rained. But it was cancelled due to a bunch of complications that could have arisen from the inconsistent downpours throughout the day.”

Sophomore clarinet player Esther Goldberg shared Han’s feelings of disappointment, referencing their previous performance cancellation as well.

“I was disappointed because we put a lot of effort into the performance,” sophomore clarinet player Esther Goldberg said. “We already had one parade that was cancelled and I was looking forward to a fun experience.”

Bradbury is currently working with organizers at Disneyland to reschedule their performance to late January 2019.
