On Sunday, June 3, Tiger Woods won the Memorial Tournament, finishing at 9-under-par, 2 strokes ahead of second place finishers Rory Sabbatini and Andres Romero.Woods began his day two shots behind leader Spencer Levin. After seven holes, Woods found himself 4-under-par for the day, and atop of the leaderboard. Two bogies later, Woods began his surge, sparked by a miraculous chip-in on the 16th hole for birdie, a shot the legend Jack Nicklaus called, “the best I’ve ever seen here.”
Sunday’s win was also Wood’s 73 win on the PGA Tour, tying Nicklaus for the record of second most PGA Tour wins of all time. The Memorial Tournament is hosted by Nicklaus, and Woods felt honored to reach this landmark achievement in the presence of Nicklaus.
“To do it at age 36 is not too shabby. I am proud of what I’ve done so far. I feel like I’ve got lots of good years left,” Woods stated at the post-match press conference.
Some analysts are calling this weekend the “revival of Tiger,” referencing Woods’ infamous sex-scandal which took place on Thanksgiving 2009. Others are holding their opinion until Woods wins his first major after the incident.
Senior Ezra Laemmle believes the scandal had a minimal effect on Woods’s golf game, but also believes that we have already seen the best out of Woods.
“I think the incident coincided with a slump. It was obviously a contributor to his recent lack of success but, I think he has recovered mentally, however with that said, he will never physically be the same because of the stress his swing puts on his knees, and while I do see him surpassing Nicklaus’ 18 majors and Snead’s 80-something victories, we will never again see a Tiger as dominant as we once did,” Laemmle said.
Senior Dylan Lojac believes Woods has effectively put the scandal in the past.

He’s a hardworking athlete and the scandal will not have any effect on his future performances,” Lojac said.Tiger has already won two tournaments this year, a feat only two other players have accomplished this year. He is also ranked third in the Fedex Cup Standings.
