Varsity girls tennis suffered a loss in CIF semi-finals with a score of 10-8 against Anaheim on Wednesday, Nov. 13.

Although the team was defeated, members of the team are proud of their perseverance throughout the match.

“I was actually really inspired even though we lost because of the good fight we put out there,” senior Sheila Farzani said. “Suffering a loss made me want to get back out there and fight even harder the next time to achieve victory.”
Before the match began, Farzani felt a mixture of anxiety and excitement as she prepared to take part in “some good tennis.”

“I thought to myself that win or lose, we will give our best and see what happens, but also strategize and have patience in our matches,” Farzani said.

During the course of the match, seniors Charlotte Frank and Miriam Binman put in their utmost effort to play a strategic defense against the opposing team.

“Miriam and I played with everything we had,” Frank said. “I kept on telling myself that I have to get this in and that we’ve got this.”

The team’s loss motivated Frank to improve her play for future matches.

“The overall match was so close that it made me think our season was amazing,” Frank said. “It made me want to continue playing and do even better in League Individuals. I want to improve the consistency of my volleys and the power of my serves.”
The match sparked a bittersweet feeling for Farzani. Although she was ecstatic for the achievements of the team, she also felt a sense of sadness because the match was her last Beverly game.
“It is saddening and somber because we got very close to winning, and as a senior, it is a bit of a final farewell match for me and a close to my last season at Beverly,” Farzani said.
Girls varsity tennis is currently preparing for league individuals.
