The boys varsity lacrosse team lost 15-8 to Santa Monica High School in their last game this past Friday, April 29. The Normans ended their season with a record of 0-7 in league and 2-14 overall.
Even though the game ended with a loss, the effort given by the players during the game left an impact on senior captain Zach Antin.
“Sure, [it was a fun last game]. I mean we played harder than we did all season. It was more fun than the other games. In the other games, we didn’t play very hard, but we did this game,” Antin said.
Antin isn’t confident about the team next year, however, especially with the primary goal scorers of this season graduating this year.
“According to MaxPreps, 92 percent of the goals were scored by seniors this year, so I don’t think we will do that well next year if we don’t improve quickly,” Antin said.
Varsity coach Kyle Kobe acknowledges the effort and leadership roles the seniors took on this year in order to help the young team grow.
“The group of seniors this year was, if anything, at least a stabilizing voice for the inexperience that we had, and to that, I am forever grateful that they kept up with it and finished the season,” Kobe said. “I think the seniors knew it was going to be a challenging season, but they were able to give that stabilizing voice and, basically, lead.”
