On April 20, the arts department hosted its annual art show. However, this year’s show was special in its additional acts. The opening of the gallery turned into a festival, with performances from Dance Company and live music from jazz band and solo student musicians. The event also featured games and food trucks. Even with all of these events, the work of the artists was one of the main attractions. In the slideshow below, student artists explain the meaning behind their pieces.

Sophomore Chloe Makabeh displays her photograph of a ride at the Santa Monica Pier. "I was out with my friends, and I thought it would be really cool to take a picture as the roller coaster went around. It ended up having some nice colors and motion in it," Makabeh said.

Freshman Ava Dillard shows off the bright colors into her pastel work for Art Foundation. "We had to draw a still life of candy, so I wanted to incorporate some more beautiful colors for the values of this picture," Dillard said.

Sophomore Sofia Santos displays her floor plan created for a fictitious family in her architecture class. "I think the design choice [makes it special]. It wasn't just a box house. I tried to think about what I wanted in a home and what type of views I could have from a certain perspective," Santos said.

Freshman Collin Newberry advertises the Arizona Aloha festival with his third place graphic design piece. "I like to switch between different shades of warm colors, because I feel like it contrasts with the cooler colors of the ocean," Newberry said.

Junior Amit Geffner shows off his "instrument-inspired creature" drawing. "I brought in a few small instruments from home and I put them together to make a lily pad. I also decided to use stippling, which is multiple dots over and over again to make shadows and reflections," junior Amit Geffner said.
