The boys varsity water polo team beat the Milken Wildcats on Monday, Oct. 16, by a score of 12-6.
While this match was a non-league play, it was a game many players were anticipating.
Milken has always had a strong water polo program, and many players on both teams have known each other for years. Especially after our last match, the game today felt personal—both teams knew each other and really wanted to win,” co-captain Jonathan Artal said.
Despite leading the team by scoring seven points, co-captain Ryan Abrishami believes that without teamwork, winning would not have been possible.
“I think that how great we individually play won’t matter if we don’t play as a team, and I really saw the teamwork shown today,” Abrishami said. “We were all passing to each other, seeing who was open and following our plays.”

Coach Ahmad Hosseini was proud of the team’s performance, noting the overall improvement in the team’s technique and cohesion.
“Before this game, all of my players practiced very hard and were very tired. But today, in this game, because my players all followed my tactics, they worked as a team and won,” Hosseini said.
Artal hopes that the team can build upon its performance for the remaining league games.
“I was so impressed with our performance, namely in our defense and our offensive unselfishness. We shared the ball, played fast and smart on defense and were consistently a step up in transition,” Artal said. “I’m excited to carry this momentum forward through league and hopefully through CIF.”
Their next game is a home game against El Segundo High School on Oct. 17.
