New school resource officer appointed amid campus safety discussion

Jamie Kim co-editor-in-chief
As part of the district’s 45-day plan to improve safety at all five school sites, on Monday, March 12, the Beverly Hills Police Department (BHPD) appointed Office Anne Marie Lunsman as the second School Resource Officer (SRO).
The Parkland school shooting and the several instances of campus safety threats prompted many community members to push the city council and the Board of Education to reinstate the SRO program. Lunsman now joins Officer Stephanie Frias, Juvenile Detective Ubaldo Mendoza and a team of Adopt-a-School officers in efforts to work with the district and community in enhancing security measurements and procedures.
The strong partnership between our school district and police department is critical to ensuring the highest level of safety for our students and staff at each of our schools. I am so pleased by the addition of School Resource Officer Lunsman and the experience she brings to our school safety team,” Superintendent Michael Bregy said.
Bregy notes that on top of the addition to the safety program, the district will continue to work toward creating safer environments.
“The specialized skills and personal relationships that SRO’s provide on our campuses are absolutely essential to the safety and security of our schools, and our district will continue to work closely with BHPD in this effort,” Bregy said.
