The players believe they could’ve won had they not struggled with defense.
“There’s a certain energy that you want as a team and the other day that energy was missing,” senior captain Cannon King said. “At the start of the game, we struggled defensively. The last few innings, we pulled together on offense, but the defensive errors stuck with us.”
Despite their errors, senior outfielder Brandon Wolfe was able to acknowledge the team’s strengths.
“Although we lost, the score doesn’t tell the story of the game. We were able to score runs on a pitcher who is being scouted by Division I college teams, and if a few plays defensively went a different way, we could have won the game,” Wolfe said.
With an overall record of 7-4, based on the team’s performance in league, they hope to continue to make their way to CIF.
“I try my best to create a competitive environment for our guys. I also know that having fun is a key to success and our team understands that has to be a part of how we develop,” King said. “We just have to learn from these types of games and continue to build the team chemistry.”
The team’s next game is the league opener at Hawthorne today at 3:15 p.m.
