In their second home game of preseason, the girls varsity volleyball lost to the Windward Wildcats 3-0 sets on Tuesday, Aug. 28.
The team was defeated in all three sets, losing to the Wildcats, 25-12, 25-9 and 25-16. Despite the loss, the team improved upon skills from their previous home match against Da Vinci Design on Thursday, Aug.23.
“We ran the middle effectively and last week we did not run the middle at all. We served a little better and our defense was much better today, but we have a long way to go,” coach Marla Weiss said.
After having conditioning and practice all summer, the team expected a different outcome from this game.
“I was excited for this game and our first game. The results really disappointed me, we work really hard. I thought we were going to get a win today,” junior middle blocker Isabella Sanchez said.
Senior setter Katie Wu felt like the team didn’t reach their potential because a lot of the team was distracted or not in the game.
“Normally [the team dynamic] is fine. I just think today a few key players were not as motivated or enthusiastic as normal and it brought the whole team attitude down,” Wu said.
The team hopes to overcome their challenges in the next couple weeks so they can prove themselves during league season and achieve their goal of getting to playoffs.
“Our challenge right now is inexperience. We’re a very young team and we are inconsistent. The experience is just time and the consistency is about practice and repetitive work,” Weiss said. “When we become more consistent and a little more experienced in the season it should look like a different team.”
The team’s next home game will be against St.Bernard Vikings on Thursday, Aug. 30 at 3:15 p.m.
