The annual hair drive, which took place on March 10 at the CDC, had 14 participants who donated their hair. After these volunteers get their hair cut for free, this hair is donated to the organization Wigs for Kids, which makes wigs for sick children.
Every year for the last 15 years, Service Learning has collaborated with different hair stylists to cut the hair of willing students and teachers. This year, stylists from Vidal Sassoon and Salon Three, and stylist Laura Mendoza donated their time to cutting the hair of these individuals
Lisa Dickens, a teacher volunteer, has donated hair before and it has a special significance to her.
“Every time I do it, I do it because it grows back and the people who we’re giving it to can’t grow their own right now,” Dickens said. “Someone very dear to me just lost her hair to chemo treatment.”
