Los Angeles County Public Health (LACDPH) will no longer require students and faculty members to wear masks indoors starting March 12, a policy that BHUSD plans to follow.
The county made their decision shortly after Governor Gavin Newsom decided to lift several mask mandates, including those in schools, earlier today. While the county and state still strongly recommend that students and staff wear masks indoors, the decision will ultimately be left to the individuals.
Superintendent Dr. Michael Bregy said via Aeries that he was “pleased” with LACDPH’s decision.
“I thank you for your continuous support in navigating this pandemic and am grateful for this much-needed light at the end of the tunnel,” Bregy said.
However, he continues to “strongly support” students and staff members who want to keep wearing masks.
“We recognize that every home faces personal challenges,” Bregy said. “Should any student or staff member feel more comfortable by wearing additional PPE (personal protective equipment)…, we will make this available to you.”
