On Thursday, Sept. 12, ASB held its annual Club Rush on the third floor patio. Students had the opportunity to sign up for various clubs and run their own booths as well.
Those who were running their booths decorated it with fun posters and eye-catching displays, such as Youth Investing Club’s big blocks of gold. Students who were signing up for clubs had the opportunity to win prizes and candy.
“It’s really nice to get to see different club ideas and just enjoy having different options to do during lunch,” senior Ari Cohn said. “I’m just very happy to be here.”
Prior to Club Rush, student representatives participated in Club Summit to renew or create clubs on issues or hobbies they are passionate about. Some students took this as an opportunity to make a difference, creating clubs to benefit others in need.
“I noticed we needed to have more volunteers with a nonprofit I volunteered for, and we’re hoping to raise money to get uniforms for the lacrosse team this semester.” senior Loretta Jenson said.
Sophomore Crystal Clinton created her club Smile Through Cancer out of her passion for medicine and the concern for cancer. She expressed that cancer “is a huge issue and [she] wanted to make an impact.”
Her club focuses on helping those who are hospitalized due to cancer. The club organizes toy drives and distributes the collected toys to the patients at the UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital. She wants to reach a goal of giving to those in need each semester with the addition of making handmade cards and gifts.
“Smile Through Cancer is a club dedicated to providing gifts towards cancer patients, we will be working towards the goal of each semester, providing activity kits and cards as personalized packages for cancer patients at the UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital.” Clinton said.
Overall, Club Rush was a very exciting experience filled with positivity where all students could find something to be a part of.
“It just feels like a very positive vibe today, which I’m very grateful about,” Principal Drew Stewart said.
