MONDAY OCT 14- An employee at Santa Monica College was shot at the Center for Media and Design on 1600 Stewart St. shortly before 10 p.m.
Felicia Hudson, the 54 year-old custodial operations manager was the victim, and sadly passed away from the injury a few days after.
“We are deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic loss of our colleague Felicia Hudson, who served the college for nearly three decades with dedication and heart. She took great pride in being a steadfast coworker and leader,” SMC Superintendent/President Kathryn E. Jeffery said in a recent statement this past Wednesday.
According to Santa Monica College Chief of Police Johnnie Adams, it was “a workplace violence incident, not a random act,”
The Santa Monica Police Department is leading the investigation on this shooting, working with the school’s police department. As of now, the school will be remote until Sunday, Oct. 20.
The SMPD said in a recent statement that the shooter is also an employee and SMC and has been apprehended Tuesday at approximately 3 p.m. He was found inside of his vehicle with a self-inflicted gun shot wound.
SMPD Detectives have identified the shooter as SMC employee Davon Durell Dean. According to more information in a statement by the police, “There are no known additional suspects involved, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.”
The SMC Foundation established a legacy fund, in collaboration with the victims family, which is now accepting donations
