Tim Briggs, the advanced and beginning photography teacher here at Beverly released his first album after 20 years, “The Long Fall From Grace.”
Mr. Briggs was previously a part of the popular country band, Alabama. After years of touring and travelling for music, he decided to settle at Beverly and teach his other passion- photography.
To get back into music, Mr. Briggs started playing guitar with Michael Federman– Beverly’s art and graphic design and a good friend of Mr. Briggs. Mr. Briggs also bought himself a Martin Guitar which he loved so much he had to play it constantly.
“[The album] is kind of about the disillusionment from society and religion,” Mr. Briggs said.
He wants people to notice that the times are changing and to be aware of their surroundings.
In his title track, “The Long Fall From Grace,” Mr. Briggs talks about going through life and not truly enjoying it until you are nostalgic for it.
He sang, “Never seeing what’s all around/’til it passes you on the way down.”
“Don’t be miserable [and] keep your head down…look up and see how nice it is around you,” Briggs said, explaining how you can choose to live your life.
In “The Girl in the Yellow Dress,” Mr. Briggs speaks about the love he shares with his wife and how he fell in love with her when they met.
He sang, “If you could reach up to the stars/Pull them down with a hook/String them up like diamonds just for her/You might have a chance at the love of the girl,”
He explains how you can find love and other simple joys in life by just, “…slowing down and stopping to smell the roses.”
Overall, his album conveyed a great story and message, and I hope to hear more music from Mr. Briggs in the future.
