For the past three years, it has always been a tradition for the school to put together a winter formal either around December, January or February. However, Winter Formals lost money due to a lack of attendance. The school decided to replace Winter Formal with a silent disco.
For those that don’t know what it is, it is a dance where people listen to music on wireless headphones. When ASB was deciding on an alternative school spirit event, ASB Advisor Mr. Henggeler thought a silent disco would be fun due to past experiences with it at Grad Night in Universal Studios.
“Every year I chaperone Grad Night at Universal Studios and they have a silent disco in the park for seniors who attend. Many past seniors have reported back how fun and cool they thought the silent disco was, so we went about finding a silent disco company in LA who could provide the headphones and DJs,” Mr. Henggeler said.
After attending the event for the first time, although it would have been better if more kids showed up and the dance had taken place at a venue with a dance floor outside of school, overall the event was fun. Not only were there delicious snacks and drinks to keep everyone fueled, there were cool people to interact with.
“I think that the dance will benefit the school’s culture because it’ll be a time for all of us to come together and spend time together, outside of the school day,” senior Sabrina Niku said.
Even though there are always ways to improve, the event was satisfying to participate in and as the school years progress, this event will grow and improve as well.
