The school year is coming to an end, and it’s time to say our final farewells to French teacher Madame Corinne Carlson, who will be retiring after 28 years of teaching at the high school and 50 years of teaching overall.
Madame Carlson currently teaches four levels of French: French one, French two, French four honors, and AP. She began teaching in 1975 after being inspired by both her parents, who were teachers. Madame Carlson expressed her love for taking care of and working with kids, which led her to pursue teaching.
“Being around children felt like a calling.” She said.
She has formed strong bonds with many of her students because of her genuine passion for teaching; students from all levels expressed their gratitude for Madame Carlson.
“I like how she always checks in with her students.” Junior Zoe Miller said.
“She’s really fun to talk to,” Junior Ava Banayoun said.
Along with her wide range of courses, Madame Carlson also hosted a yearly event called Cabaret, where students from all levels get to show their talents to students, faculty, and parents on stage.
Madame Carlson explained that witnessing her students grow in their language abilities is one of the most rewarding aspects of her job: “I often have the same students for multiple years, and it’s incredible to see them go from not being able to say much to speaking fluently.”
Above everything, as she prepares for retirement, Madame Carlson wishes for her students to take with them a desire to continue learning about languages and other cultures.
“While they may not remember every word or grammar rule, I want them to carry a desire to learn and explore the world,” Carlson said.
Beverly sends love to Madame Carlson, wishing her a farewell and a pleasant retirement.
