On Saturday, May 10, from seven to ten PM, Beverly Hills hosted prom at City Club Los Angeles in downtown. Some students went to pre-proms before the event to take pictures with friends and family.
Prom wasn’t worth the cost.
Beverly’s prom cost $170 without a go-card, and $140 with.
Prom is expensive, especially considering what students get in return.
The prom didn’t even have a bartender. There were just a few different soda brands in cans, with some cups and ice left out for students to pour on their own.
The venue was small, and the dance floor didn’t even have enough space for all the students to dance on. There were some exciting activities at prom, such as a caricature artist, casino games, a photo booth and a 360-degree camera.
Many other high schools charge less for prom tickets. A former student at Beverly bought his prom ticket at his new school for $75.
I don’t think the price was worth what most students got in return, but it was an experience that can’t be re-lived.
The school did not offer transportation with the ticket.
Beverly has always been charging high prices for prom tickets, even at less expensive venues.
I was privileged to experience a nicer venue than my brother in 2022, but the price for his prom ticket was around the same as mine.
Even though being a senior can be expensive, senior Louis Gornik didn’t regret paying the price.
He said, “I went to prom because I thought I should because it’s my last year in high school and it might’ve been fun…It definitely wasn’t worth 170 dollars but it was kind of fun so I don’t regret going.”
On the other hand, senior Benji Gotfried decided to not attend prom this year.
He said, “I personally just didn’t feel like going to prom and I just didn’t think it was worth the price that it was.”
Even though prom is expensive, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience so it was definitely something to experience, especially with the 51st floor downtown view.
