Ms. Heather Godin, the health teacher here at Beverly, is known for her loving demeanor, kindness and the support she gives to all students. Ms. Godin has been a teacher here for several years, however, many don’t know the chronicle of her path to becoming an educator.
Ms. Godin grew up in West LA, where she attended Stephen S. Wise Elementary School.
Ms. Godin shared that she knew she wanted to be a teacher from a young age as she shares a significant memory: “I remember being a kid and playing teacher with my sister and knowing that’s what I wanted to do.”
As Ms. Godin was always passionate about health and keeping herself well mentally and physically, pursuing her desire for teaching while educating others on health importance seemed to be the perfect career for her.
After she graduated from Uni High School in the 90’s, Ms. Godin began attending UCLA, where she would soon earn her teaching credential. In 2000, as she was still attending UCLA, she was simultaneously working here as a teacher’s aid.
Ms. Godin describes this experience as, “really great [for her] because it was a nice introduction for becoming a teacher.”
Her experience as a teacher’s aid had solidified her want to work at Beverly as a teacher. Ms. Godin said, “even as a teacher’s aid, I really loved all the students here.”
When asked about the most challenging part of being a high school teacher, Ms. Godin said that she doesn’t feel there is a challenging part and that her job brings her felicity. She shared that her favorite part of her job is, “creating relationships and connections with my students, even when they aren’t taking health anymore.”
Today, Ms. Godin remains here working her dream career, still living in Los Angeles with her fiancé and chihuahua, Ramble.
The Beverly community is happy Ms. Godin’s path has led her here, as the students here adore her. Junior Gabriela Benjamin said Ms. Godin is her “favorite teacher, and the sweetest person ever.”
It is safe to say that Beverly would not be the same without Ms. Godin; her hard work and passion allowed her to be the inspiring teacher she always wanted to be!
