The first day of high school is always momentous, whether you are a freshman stepping on campus for the first time or a senior making the most out of your last year. After a long summer, every Norman seemed to be buzzing with excitement and nervousness as they stepped into classrooms and caught up with friends.
When asked about her first day of school, freshman Liana Carrel felt that she had a great experience overall, “All of my teachers are really nice, and my favorite part of school is taking the Madrigals elective. The school is really big and hard to navigate, though!”
Meanwhile, Mica Berg had a slightly different perspective as she reflected on what it means to be a senior, “It is kind of crazy to think that my grade is the oldest now. I remember always having upperclassmen, but now we’re the oldest. I’m really looking forward to this last bit of bonding with everyone before we spread out for college!”
To make the back-to-school season extra special for Normans like Carrel and Berg, ASB hosted the ‘Week of Welcome,’ also known as WOW Week! The week was filled with fun treats and activities, ranging from Otter Pops to self-care packages, packed with stress balls and wrist snappers.
“WOW week was a great way to get back into the school routine, as well as a great welcome for new students,” ASB sophomore representative Sanaya Savani said. “I think it was a huge success, and it was a great start for the school year!”
Additionally, not only were Normans back from summer break, but so were the BHHS administrators. This year, Normans welcomed a new principal: Loan Sriruksa!
“I look forward to leading BHHS in achieving excellence and continuing to live up to the legacy of nearly 100 years,” Sriruksa said. “ I hope to provide an educational experience where all students are prepared for their college and career goals once they graduate!”
Overall, the back-to-school season for BHHS is off to a strong start. Whether you are a freshman who is just starting your journey, a sophomore who is figuring out what they want to do, a junior who is giving their 200% in all they do or a senior ready to leave a mark, this year is yours to shape. Let us all make this year one to remember!
