The boys varsity tennis team has been promoted to Division One, making them currently the only D1 team on campus.
In previous years, the team was ranked number three in the D2 league, trailing behind San Marino and Palm Desert. The upgrade to D1 will greatly affect who they will compete against in CIF.
“Although we have been promoted to a stronger division of high school tennis, our mindset and attitude toward this season has not changed. Competing to the best of our ability every match is a part of our new responsibility of being a sole Division One team of our school,” Senior co-captain Emilio Yera said. “We feel proud to have been promoted, however we know the measures we have to take as a team to compete at a Division One level.”
Boys varsity tennis celebrated a win on Feb.  24, in their first match of the season against Loyola. Number one doubles, seniors Emilio Yera and Jonah Malkin, won two of three matches. In the number two singles match, Johnny Barcohana swept all three matches. Lastly, in both number three singles and number one singles, Jack Harris and Adriano Saitta, respectively, won in two of three matches.

“We had a great win today against a solid Division One team. One of the things we do best is grinding out close matches, so this boosts our confidence going forward,” Coach Mike Margolin said. “We really don’t have any weak spots in the lineup, so I think we will be a very tough team to beat come playoffs.”
Senior co-captain Jonah Malkin weighed in on the prospects for the tennis team this season.
“We had a great season last year but this is a new year with new goals and expectations. We have a great group of guys that have all been improving tremendously and constantly working on their games,” Malkin said.
