The varsity track team competed in a dual meet against Hawthorne and Lawndale on April 16 at home.
“We have a really young team right now and we are doing a really good job to do the best we can do. In the next couple years to come we are going to get better and better. The freshman girls show a lot of promise and there are a lot of girls who look like they will get increasingly better as they become seniors and hopefully carry the team.” captain Raehaan Poonja said.
In the boys varsity 4-by-100 meter relay, Beverly placed first after being behind for most of the race. Poonja gained a lead in the last 100 meters to take first over both Lawndale and Hawthorne.
For the boys frosh/soph 1-10 hurdles, sophomore Lucas Thau came in first place and for the varsity team senior Harry Green came in first place. In the varsity 400-meter junior Max Walder placed second. Poonja won the 100 and 200-meter event and hit his personal record in the 200-meter with a time of 22.40.
Junior Kenya James took first place in the 100 meter hurdles for the girls varsity event. Freshman Ryan Kenneally came in first in the girls 400 meter and 200 meter events. Freshman Sarah Smith placed first in the 100 meter event.
The track team’s next meet will be on Saturday April 18.
