The Girls Varsity Volleyball had a home game against Lawndale on Friday, Sept. 16. which they won. They put a lot of physical and mental effort into preparing for this game. Volleyball can be a tough and challenging sport. 

Senior Ava Wizmann said, “The hardest part of volleyball is beating your own mind, just because [of] the physical aspects.”  Wizmann started playing volleyball in her 8th grade. She’s been on a Beverly volleyball team for three years now. Her first two years, she was on JV, as well as being on varsity for two years. 

Before the game started, the varsity team peppered back and forth. As well as doing stretches to warm up. Soon after the players from the other school arrived, they got dressed and started warming up as well. About 10 minutes later, the whistle blew, and it was time to start the game. 

The game left everyone in shock since it was a close match. But then it was time for the last serve, the player served the ball over the net, the other team missed it, and they won the game!

During the game, they had lots of teamwork, energy and communication amongst each other. After a player made a serve over they would all cheer for each other and huddle up.

From the beginning to the end of the game, the team had a lot of determination to win and keep on going, even if they lost that point.

When Team Captain junior Ameenah Huntoon was asked what the difficulties during the game were and what she could’ve done better, she said, “I think I can work on making smarter decisions when I choose who to set.” She stated that the other team was choosing smart spots on the court meaning that they strategized hitting the ball in open areas  .

The coach gave lots of advice during the game and tried to help players out if the team missed a point. The coach guided the players calmly.

This game showed talent, teamwork and hard work. With all the support from friends, family and coaches, they won their game. The varsity team really gave it their all and deserved the win.
