There is always an excited energy within the Norman Nation leading up to any sporting match against Santa Monica High School (SAMO). The girls varsity basketball away game on Friday Jan. 22 is no exception to the hype.
Last year’s home game had the Swim Gym full to capacity, leaving some members of the student body turned away at the door. So far this year, the team has had a rough start holding a record of 0-3.The Normans hope to turn their luck around in their upcoming game against the SAMO Vikings.
“The team’s goal is to play as well as possible, just like any other game,” senior forward Jehman Williams said. “We can’t make too big of a deal about playing them [SAMO].”
While they must focus on their game, the team is looking forward to feeding off the energy the crowd supplies.
“I’m looking forward to the competitive spirit of the games with SAMO,” Williams said.
The Norman versus Viking game will take place Friday at 6:00 p.m. While the game is scheduled at be at SAMO, the infamous Norman hype will fill the crowd.
