The Robotics team, Mortorq, competed in its only two competitions of the year during spring break. They earned an eighth place finish out of 45 teams in Ventura, and a 20th place finish out of 60 teams in Long Beach.
Although the team didn’t come out of the competition with any awards or trophies, Build President Robert Sher was still proud of the performance.
“The robotics team did great in competition, considering we are in a rebuilding year. The team had one of the highest offensive power rankings at both competitions we attended, which was a great achievement,” Sher said.
Co-President of Business Noah Danesh was also pleased with how the robot finished in the difficult events.
“Our robot was really good this year because we performed well and worked hard. We only had six weeks to build the robot this year, and we worked hard and did it. I really liked the outcome,” Danesh said. “It was really nice that we got to work hard on our robot and got to see it compete, and we are really looking forward to next year’s competition and challenge.”
Sher thought that the robot did better than expected in the games at this year’s competition, which consisted of throwing balls, carrying gears and climbing a rope.
“This was my third year on the team, but I felt most proud of this year’s robot as we had a short amount of time to build it and it excelled in all aspects of the game. The competition truly shows how critical teamwork and gracious professionalism are in being successful,” Sher said.
The competitions were not only fun and exciting, but also challenging and helpful in teaching important skills, according to Danesh.
“I had a great time and learned a lot of things, one of which was communication and being able to talk to people,” Danesh said. “I also learned about teamwork because everyone has a role in making such a big thing happen. It was an overall successful competition and I’m really proud of our team.”
