The 11th grade Headrow candidates for the upcoming ASB election debated topics including campus culture and event planning on Friday, April 27. The debates were created by ASB, broadcasted by KBEV and reported on by Highlights.
STUDENT BOARD MEMBER:
Seth Pizzurro
Activities: ASB, Speech and Debate, DECA, Baseball, Link Crew, Spanish Club
HL: What are your main goals for the coming year?
SP: I want to make sure school safety (e.g. the fence and new rules) doesn’t translate into less student liberties and that (potential) reconfiguration goes smoothly. Also I want to plan all ASB events much more in advance so they run smoother.
HL: Why should Normans vote for you?
SP: I am going to push for increased student voice and choice by ensuring I gather the common student’s opinions on various school issues, events, and activities. Then I will present the school board, ASB, or administration with those opinions so they can do things with the student’s interests in mind.
HL: How do you plan to enable the student body to influence policy decisions made by the Board?
SP: I will have monthly assemblies and conduct polls to get the opinion of as many students as possible. I would also encourage the student body to attend a board meeting in numbers to talk about an issue they’re passionate about.
Sean Toobi
Activities: DECA President, NormInvest President, ASB Junior Vice-President, BHHS WASC Council Student Representative, F/S Basketball and Track
HL: What are your main goals for the coming year?
ST: My three primary goals are to influence policy, enhance communication, and increase efficiency. I will strive to ensure our students can make change and be more informed on ASB events, and I am dedicated to effectively facilitating the ASB class.
HL: Why should Normans vote for you?
ST: The Student Board Member should be not only who we believe is the best student for the job, but also the best representation of the student body as a whole. I believe my leadership experience would best represent all students on the Board of Education to have all their voices heard.
HL: How do you plan to enable the student body to influence policy decisions made by the Board?
ST: I hope to implement a new direct messaging platform in which I would be able to send updates and polls to students to make their voices heard. That way, I would be equipped with a wide range of opinions to present at Board meetings.
PRESIDENT:
Ryan Abrishami
Activities: varsity water polo, Teen Line, By Your Side Club, varsity swim
HL: What are your main goals for the coming year?
RA: My main goals for years ASB is to use the experience and knowledge that I have being in ASB for three years, and implement it into leading ASB next year.
HL: Why should Normans vote for you?
RA: For the past three years I have devoted my high school career in growing myself as a leader so one day when I would be fortunate enough to run for a head row position I would be ready. That time has now come and I’m more than ready.
HL: As the leader of ASB, how will you make it an efficient, effective and accountable representative body for all students?
RA: ASB president being an influential position in our school is a position that should not be taken for granted. With the connections I have built and the knowledge that I have gained in the leadership class at BHHS I will make the best decisions to encompass the desires of all Normans
Jared David Kurtz
Activities: ASB, Young Americans for Freedom Club, BHHS Minyan Club, Teen BHEF, Former Varsity Softball Manager and band member.
HL: What are your main goals for the coming year?
JDK: My main goals for this coming year is to improve school spirit. Also, to get kids excited to come to Beverly. BHHS should be a safe place for kids to learn and socialize with their peers.
HL: Why should Normans vote for you?
JDK: Normans should vote for me because I truly have the passion. You can always teach the skills but you can’t teach the enthusiasm. I try my best at everything I do and I will bring that attitude to being President.
HL: As the leader of ASB, how will you make it an efficient, effective and accountable representative body for all students?
JDK: Communication is key. Being able to communicate with the kids at Beverly is a huge way to keep people accountable. It is also a good way to connect with the students in our school.
VICE PRESIDENT:
Estella Rosen
Activities: varsity soccer and softball (captain), ASB for two years (Sophomore Representative, Social Media and Publicity Commissioner), Interact, Spanish Club, and Link Crew.
HL: What are your main goals for the coming year?
I have four main goals for this next year: 1) increased school spirit and more original spirit days 2) lower prices for school events 3) increased communication between athletics and teachers and 4) a Homecoming Dance!
HL: Why should Normans vote for you?
Normans should vote for me because I have a passion for school spirit and believe that, by really working on spirit, we can better the day-to-day lives of our students. I am prepared to keep ASB efficient and productive.

KS: I am extremely passionate about ASB and the school as a whole. I love being involved and especially meeting new people. I will definitely hear people’s opinions and ideas for the school and make them a reality. O
HL: How will you utilize your role to serve the various student organizations and clubs?

HL: Why should Normans vote for you?
AR: I have been president of my grade for the past 4 years, beginning in 7th grade. My grade has faith that I will do the best of my ability to make our school a better place. We also have no upcoming Junior Representation on Head Row. If I win my election I will be the only Junior on Head Row, so senior year, we should have someone that had had the Head Row experience and I think I’m perfect for that.
HL: How will you ensure ASB conducts its financial dealings with integrity and equal consideration to all groups?
AR: I know that I have excellent financial skills by working together with Ryan Abrishami to raise over $13,000 for Make A Wish Foundation. I believe that I have always been recognized to be an honest guy by all my peers, and my great relationship with Trish will also be a great help.

HL: Why should Normans vote for you?
CW: I feel my history of being a treasurer for the junior class qualifies me because the past year we have raised a lot of money through various fundraisers. Also I work at the student store and already handle some money that goes through ASB.
HL: How will you ensure ASB conducts its financial dealings with integrity and equal consideration to all groups?
CW: When dealing with finances I would like to create an application form that clubs must complete in order to keep track of the funds and know where it goes. SY: I plan to utilize my role to create a transparent and accountable student government by taking clear yet extensive minutes daily during each ASB class. Minutes are always available to the entire school and I plan to emphasize that. In addition, I will use my involvement in the Norman Update to further inform students on everything going on within BHHS.
