Jewish Student Union (JSU) has been a club at the high school for about 50 years. It has effectively helped students learn more about Jewish Culture. JSU is a club to join as it supports the future of Jewish identity.

Not only are jewish students welcome to the club but all students of any religion. Miss Kalia Scheiner strongly urges that no matter who the person is they should come to the club.

“JSU invites everyone and all religions. The club does not discriminate,” Scheiner said.

There are many reasons to join JSU.

Students should have many reasons to join JSU. Freshman club member Tal Shooshani recommends students to come because of an important idea people should learn.

“People should join JSU because people that are jewish need to learn their heritage,” Shooshani said.

Freshman club member Daniel Yeroshalmi would like students to join for an experience students should have in their lives.

“Students should join because of a good student experience,” Yeroshalmi said.

Even if students are not jewish they should join the club. Scheiner wants to give students a “belonging”.

“We want to give a student identity and belonging,” Scheiner said.

Students should also join because it spreads awareness of issues and topics in Judaism around the world.

“Students should join because it boosts Jewish identity,” Scheiner said.

There has also been many improvements that the club has made over the 50 year span at the high school. Shooshani feels that the club has been more interesting to come to.

“We made it more timely and involved,” Shooshani said.

Scheiner has also made sure to make improvements over the years, as she has been a teacher for 25 years at the high school and the advisor of the club for 25 years as well.

“The club has been more educational to the members,” Scheiner said.

Meetings in JSU have many discussions about Judaism.

There are many things to talk about in JSU. Shooshani likes talking about issues of Judaism in JSU.

“We talk about different topics in Judaism,” Shooshani said.

The club also discusses about many issues in the Jewish community around the world. The club also talks about holidays that deal with Judaism. Recently the club has discussed about the election. The club listened and expressed their thoughts about the election because they wanted to know what the opinions of the candidates were on the issues of Israel.

“We discuss issues and some political issues that affect Jewish communities,” Scheiner said.

The club has been gaining members over the years through other members. Shooshani and Yeroshalmi both joined because of the club’s members.

“My friends told me about how the club was very fun,” Shooshani said.

Yaroshemali joined the club to be with friends and have a good experience.

“(My) friends told me about how exciting and fun it is,” Yeroshalmi said.

Scheiner also mentions it in her class’s as she is the Hebrew teacher and advisor of the club.

“I announce it at the beginning of the year,” and “People talk about the club,” Scheiner said.

The club is worth joining as it has been in the school for over 50 years. Scheiner has been apart of the club for 25 years and this year maybe the year for jewish students and non-jewish students to join. The club is always available to students every wednesday in Scheiner’s room where JSU takes place. (Room 234)
