Take it or Make it: How to make Rice Krispie treats

Today is Valentine’s Day, and we all know what that means–sugary, chocolate-filled desserts. If you’re planning on making something homemade, Adventures with Mel’s heart-shaped M&M Rice Krispie treat recipe is a delicious, easy option.

The recipe only has a few steps. First, you should melt butter over low to medium heat. Once the butter is melted, stir in vanilla and salt, keeping the heat on. Next, add mini marshmallows and mix them with the other ingredients until fully melted and incorporated.

Once this mixture is complete, take it off heat and add the Rice Krispies. You only should partially incorporate the cereal at this point. After that, add M&Ms to the mix. Any regular M&Ms will work, although Valentine’s Day-themes ones are probably the cutest. Finally, mix the ingredients together until the mixture is uniform.

Spread the Rice Krispie treats onto a pan and put some festive sprinkles on top. The last step is to use heart-shaped cookie cutters to create the final product.

The result is a chewy, addicting Valentine’s treat. The mild taste of the Rice Krispies perfectly complements the intensely sweet flavors of marshmallows and M&Ms, and the softer marshmallow texture is a perfect match for the crunchiness of the cereal and candy.
