Most anticipated movies of 2012

Kevin Park, Staff Writer
One of the biggest Hollywood traditions, the annual Golden Globe Award, took place last weekend. This year’s Golden Globe Award had a different perspective from those of previous years. If the last two years were years of blockbuster movies, such as AvatarThe Hurt LockerThe Social Network, and Inception, this year was a year of drama movies, such as Moneyball, The Ides of March, The Help, and the winner of Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Drama of 2012, The Descendants. Although there were some blockbuster movies this year such as Transformer: The Dark of Moon and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, these movies failed to satisfy both the audiences and critics, increasing the thirst for better movies. Well, it seems that they do not have to wait too long to be satisfied; the rumors and trailers of 2012 movies have already started to heat their excitement.
5. The Hunger Games
Suzanne Collins’ best seller sci-fi novel series, The Hunger Games is coming to a motion picture world. With a unique setting of post apocalyptic, or dystopia America and dramatic story line, it dazzled over 16,000,000 readers in the world. Like many other movies that are based on novels, the key of success of this movie will be how well the movie will reflect and convey its originality. The Hunger Games features the 21-year-old actress, Jennifer Lawrence as the protagonist Katniss Everdeen. The movie comes to theaters on March 23.
4. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2

Whether you like it or not, a series most beloved by girls, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, which is based on Stephanie Meyer’s best-selling novel series: The Twilight, followed by sequels of New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn, finally comes to a dramatic end. Like the last chapter of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series – Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which brought huge attentions from the audience last year, the epic end of The Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn – Part 2 is going to bring another huge attention from the audience. The epic saga ends on November 16.
3. The Hobbit: An Expected Journey
Peter Jackson’s a total of 30 Academy Awards-winning trilogy, The Lord of the Rings, comes back for those fantasy-philes with its prequel, The Hobbit: An Expected Journey. The Hobbit series will lead us to the retrospect adventures of Bilbo Baggins who is the Ring-bearer Frodo Baggins’ uncle, and  the Grey, or the White magician, Gandalf,  in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The second part of The Hobbit will come out in the winter of 2013. The author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, J. R. R. Tolkien’s last piece, The Silmarillion, which is a sequel of The Lord of the Rings, yet remains uncertain to be made in motion picture. This journey of fantasy restarts on December 14.
2. The Dark Knight Rises
Whether he is known as the villain or the hero of the Gotham City, Christopher Nolan’s Batman finally lands here. With a stunning trailer that was launched a few weeks ago, it has already excited thousands of fans. The ambiguity of success still remains; will The Dark Knight Rises be better than its previous movie, The Dark Knight, which amazed thousands of fans with the astonishing character, Joker, played by unfortunate actor Heath Ledger, the Oscar winner, and its flawless and epic storyline? Whether it is going to be satisfactory or not, the Joker will be replaced by John Blake, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Bane, played by  Tom Hardy. The movie comes to theaters on July 20.
1. The Avengers
The epic heroes of Marvel finally come together after a four-year-long anticipation. Marvel’s anticipation seems to be paid off soon. Along with its recent success of X-Men: The First Class, Marvel’s dream to bring all of its heroes to the theater has been enormously successful. Marvel is also going to launch an all-renewed Spider-Man series, The Amazing Spider-Man, and the sequel of Ghost RiderGhost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance this year. Marvel also plans to product Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 in 2013. The Avengers will feature heroes such as Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, and Hawkeye.
