127.7 million. That is how many people watched the 59th Super Bowl on Feb. 9th 2025, making it the most watched Super Bowl in history and single-network telecast in history. 

The teams consisted of the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs, who competed at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. In the end, the Eagles took home the gold, with a score of 40-22. 

The first touchdown, which was scored by quarterback Jalen Hurts, gave the Eagles a lead of seven-one in just the first quarter. Hurts then went on to score another touchdown, securing the Eagle’s place in the Super Bowl, and it was almost clear that the outcome of the game would mean an Eagle’s win. 

“I couldn’t do any of these things without the guys around me,” Hurts said after winning MVP of the season, referring to his team. 

The halftime show, which was performed by Grammy award winning rapper Kendrick Lamar, debatably sparked the most attention. The show opened with actor Samuel L. Jackson dressed as Uncle Sam. 

Lamar opened with his song “squabble up.” Towards the end of the song, Jackson stated that Lamar was “too loud, too reckless, too ghetto.” This symbolizes typical racist stereotypes, as well as systematic racism, according to Lamar. 

A little over one minute into the performance, Lamar stated: “the revolution is about to be televised, you picked the right time but the wrong guy,” which incorporates the poem written by Gil Scott-Heron titled: “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” that displays the idea that the media and television will not show the violence of racism.

After the performance, the words “game over.” were heard before the performance ended. Some believe the reasoning behind this was a reference to political division. Others believed that it symbolized the end of rapper Drake and Lamar’s rivalry, with Lamar being the winner.
