Singer, songwriter and performer Taylor Swift is one of the most famous and influential people in the world. With 11 albums under her belt, she has explored and incorporated many different genres and styles into each album.
The Tortured Poets Department, 1989, Speak Now, Midnights, Red, evermore, folklore, Lover and reputation are the titles of some albums by Swift. Each album contains songs with emotional and often powerful lyrics.
Her lyrics have resonated with many people around the world. The millions of people who attended her recently concluded Eras tour (which generated $2 billion dollars), lovingly call themselves “Swifties,” which are passionate and loyal fans of Swift.
Many listeners say that her songs are relatable and that they can feel their own experiences resonate with her lyrics. This might be because Swift’s albums often reflect the ongoing events that have occurred in her life that a lot of people tend to go through. Maybe her songs are timeless because she has never been confined to one genre. Instead, with each album, she adds her own spin and mood that makes it different from the previous ones.
Something that is key to making her songs so relatable is that her songs center around universal themes. Examples of such themes include love, hatred and insecurity, which are emotions that all humans feel on a fairly regular basis, particularly teenagers.
Willa Cross, a junior, said she can “relate to Taylor Swift’s songs, especially the songs on her earlier albums that were about being in high school.” She adds that Swift “has a song for every emotion, and you can relate to every song she writes, even though she’s double our age.”
However, teenagers aren’t the only ones who enjoy Swift’s songs. Her fans consist of a wide range of ages, including teachers. One such teacher is Ms. Dana Findley, who is a dance teacher, and loves to play Swift’s songs during her classes.
“I think her songs are really powerful and help me feel strong, not just as a woman but also as a human being,” said Ms. Findley. “I also went to her concert and thought that her dance choreography really enhanced the show!”
In all, whether you have heard “Cruel Summer” blasting in the mall or scrolled on Instagram and found reels with “Style” playing in the background, you cannot deny the enormous impact that Swift’s songs and her lyrics have. It is safe to say that Swifities from all around the world are looking forward to seeing what her next steps are in the music industry!
