Ms. Amy Price, a familiar face here at Beverly, has spent years being the supportive, generous secretary we all know and love dearly. Cultivating a career that was born out of her passion for working with children, her journey to working as the secretary was carried by a surprising turn of events .
Ms. Price’s journey into the world of education and administration started in a wholesome manner. She began as a volunteer, helping out frequently in her children’s elementary school classrooms.
It was during this time that Ms. Price developed a close friendship with her children’s first grade teacher.
Continuing the class volunteering, the teacher approached her asking, “why don’t you get paid for all your help? Apply for a job instead of helping me” Ms. Price recalls.
The teacher’s casual suggestion would soon become Ms. Price’s thriving future. She took the given advice to heart and began her job as a special needs assistant.
After six years of this career at Horrace Mann, she decided it was time for a change. She started working here, continuing her work in the special education environment. She would spend five years in the resource room before becoming a secretary.
Though Ms. Price was content with her career, there were definite challenges. She stated, “any person at a school can agree that high schoolers can be frustrating” but as she earlier emphasized, “working with the kids is the most rewarding part.”
As many can confirm, Ms. Price is a natural at what she does, working at a school was never her plan, and quite far from it.
She attended university in New York and “didn’t go to college for education; [she] went for fashion merchandising.”
Her move to Beverly Hills allowed her to reconsider her career options. Working in a school system would end up accommodating her perfectly as she shared, “when we moved here, we were still trying to figure out what I could do for work that would fit with my kid’s schedule.”
