Alvin Wright, the school’s former crossing guard, has tragically passed away on May 4, 2025. Wright was loved by all who knew him, and his passing was a calamity to many.
Wright had been struggling to survive since he had a stroke in May of last year. Since his stroke, he lost his ability to walk and talk, changing his life drastically overnight.
As he was in and out of the hospital, our students had been hoping for the best. When the devastating news of his passing was announced to the students, many felt the heartache of losing someone like Wright.
Wright meant so much to students. His kind demeanor, happy spirit and heart of gold connected with so many. He brought nothing but positivity with him to school everyday.
Senior Remi Abrishami had developed a close friendship with Wright during her sophomore year, as he was even featured in her Norman Aid podcast. While he was pushing through the unfortunate effects of his stroke, Abrishami stayed in contact with his wife, Michelle, to check in on him.
When informed about Wright’s departure, Abrishami took the initiative to start a GoFundMe where she would raise money for his funeral expenses, being held on May 15, 2025. Evident by the several donations, he was very loved.
Abrishami shared her devastation., “Alvin always gave me the best start to my morning and he was the highlight of my day. I really can’t believe he is gone,” she said.
Junior Cay Travish shared her pain during this tragedy. He said, “I cried so much when I found out. He was genuinely the kindest soul.”
Wright wasn’t just a crossing guard–he was a friend. He made the simple task of crossing the street delightful and engaging. Everyone who knew Wright was lucky, and he will not be forgotten.
