Homecoming Week is almost here, and students are getting ready for one of the biggest events of the year. Between the pep rally, the big game and the dance, there’s a lot to look forward to. This year’s theme is California Dreamin’, inspired by LA’s sunny beaches and bright colors.
Freshman Liv Sayah said, “We chose California Dreamin’ because we live in LA, and it really captures that California vibe that everyone can relate to.”
Sayah has been helping plan the pep rally by organizing decorations, making posters and spreading the word to buy tickets.
According to ASB Director Nickolas Henggeler, the pep rally will be held on the football field. With performances from cheer, dance company, band, Madrigals and even a fun dance by the senior football players.
Henggeler said, “It’s going to be a great way to get everyone pumped up before the game.”
Senior Eliana Naydavood, president of ASB, said, “ It’s a really big process. We have our pep rally committee making a big script, finding games, and working with sports captains and the homecoming court.”
For the pep rally, each grade will have backdrops according to their theme. Seniors are Hollywood, juniors are Malibu, sophomores are Beverly Hills and freshmen are San Francisco.
Henggeler explained that Homecoming planning began during ASB’s summer retreat, where all of ASB participated in a two-day media training session.
Henggeler said, “We started back in late July at our two-day ASB summer training…That’s where students came up with theme ideas, voted on them and started sketching out what Homecoming would look like this year.” They almost chose a different theme, but ultimately settled on California Dreamin’ for the connection it has to the community.
This year’s dance will take place at Eden Sunset, which BHHS used for senior prom in 2022.
Henggeler said, “We really liked that venue…It’s already decorated with disco balls, flower garlands and hanging airplanes from the ceiling, so it fits perfectly with our California Dreamin’ theme.”
It’s a great chance for students to celebrate together in a safe, fun environment. Students can expect bright lights, good music and lots of dancing.
Sayah said, “There’s going to be a great playlist, amazing decorations and just an overall fun night with friends…While planning can be stressful at the end, it’s all worth it.”
With help from Henggeler, ASB has worked hard to make sure this homecoming is special for everyone. There has been a lot of work put into these months of planning. Homecoming isn’t just about a dance or a game; it’s really special. It’s an event that brings everyone together.
