Oct. 18–The Homecoming Dance, the highlight of Homecoming week, took place at the Eden Sunset nightclub.
The venue was decorated with warm sunset colors and shiny disco balls. Many students said the place looked beautiful and really matched the “California Dreamin’” theme.
“The venue was really pretty– there were disco balls and everything,” sophomore Jion Jung said.
When senior Homecoming king and queen Perry Gilardian and Chloe Emein’s names were announced, the crowd cheered and clapped loudly and they celebrated their big moment on the dance floor.
Students came in all kinds of outfits, from fancy dresses to shiny suits. “California Dreamin’” made students think about the beach, the sun, and overall just the L.A. aesthetic.
Sophomore Olivia Rickner said, “I think L.A. is a dream for a lot of people, so I wore a party dress to match that vibe.” Olivia wore a short light colored dress that evening.
However, others like freshman Audrina Emery Miller said, “For me it’s my home.”…I have lived in California [for a] long time, so I choose purple colors that feel like my hometown.”
Another student, freshman Anar Mungunshagai added, “California is the dream for anybody, especially L.A, so I tried a look ‘60s style.” She wore a polka dotted dress to express this vision.
Seniors Sebastian Sosa and Ariel Lavi reminisced about their last homecoming dance.
Sosa said, “My favorite thing was seeing all my boys.” They were especially nostalgic and sensitive about the fact that this is some of the last times they can be with their friends.
Lavi expressed this, “They all look great. I love my boys” emphasizing his deep love for his male friends.
Although most people spent the night dancing, the food and drinks were very much enjoyed by students and made the night feel more fun. There was a dessert table with cookies and small cakes and a beach-style drink bar that served drinks with shark gummies and little umbrellas.
At the end of the night, students were tired but happy, leaving with memories for a lifetime. It was a fun night, full of friends, music, lights and a “California Dreamin’” vibe.
