Four students were named National Merit Scholarship semifinalists as of Tuesday, Sept. 24. Seniors Max Stahl, Jessica Lu, Daniel Raban, and Sam Schnapp each received the honor, which was awarded to about 16,000 students. As semifinalists, Stahl, Lu, Raban and Schnapp will have “an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,000 National Merit Scholarships worth about $35 million that will be offered next spring,” according to a press release issued Sept. 11 by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
Although students are typically considered as semifinalists based on their performance on the PSAT/NMSQT, Stahl, Lu, Raban and Schnapp were selected based on their junior year SAT scores.
Winners of the National Merit Scholarship will be announced in “four nationwide news releases beginning in April and concluding in July,” the press release said.
