Interact hosts Youth Meeting

Zoe Kenealy, staff writer
Interact Club will have its District Interact 5280 Youth Conference, hosted this year by the Daniel Pearl Magnet High School.  The conference will be held on Oct. 27.
“The conference is an opportunity for high-school Interact students within District 5280 to develop skills from fundraising to how to prepare for a job interview,” Rotarian Susan Berk said. “In addition, the students will learn about the philanthropic opportunities in their community and around the world.  Volunteering boosts social skills and awareness of social issues.  Committing to Rotary through our Interact programs shows responsibility which is a great foundation for college and future employment.”
The conference will work to further the goals of the Interact clubs both at Beverly and across the nation, and provide a place where students may gather and plan community service activities.
“The Youth Conference will be tons of fun,” club president Nicole Sayegh said. “It is a great experience to meet fellow district members while also developing great leadership skills that will help members later in life, and in perhaps gaining a leadership role next year for the wonderful Beverly Hills High School Interact Club.”
The purpose of the conference is to encourage a sense of leadership and maturity in the youth of the upcoming generation. Interactors and Rotaractors, or members of the Rotary clubs, from across Southern California will be attending the conference, and many of the officials will be giving speeches to the student members of Interact.
“I think that it is great that the Interact club can put a meeting like this one on,” senior Simonna Krichevsky said. “I am a member of Interact at Beverly, and to put this much effort into the youth members of Interact is incredible to me. I know that I will be learning a lot from the Youth Conference.”
The Youth Meeting helps to address one of Interact’s major goals which is to educate the youth of today about the world, and ways to give back to it.
