MorTorq FRC 1515 was part of a three-team alliance that took home the Los Angeles Regional Championship on Saturday. In past years, the business team won the top regional prize, but 2015 spelled success for MorTorq’s robot.
“Without discrediting our team at all, it was really a surprise to win the LA regional,” senior Matthew Sater said. “We faced so many setbacks, and pulling through to victory in clutch time was so exciting.”
According to Sater, MorTorq’s specialization in one area was key to the alliance’s success.
“We specialized in getting pool noodles into trash cans quickly without taking up much room. It’s a boring thing, but hey, we won,” he said.
The team will now advance to nationals, or “internationals”, as referred to by senior Camila Monchini, in St. Louis. Key members of MorTorq will travel to the Midwest to try to capture robotic glory.
“Coders are working hard on programming new autonomous functions for the robot, our ‘drive’ team is working on strategy,” Sater said. “It’s great.”
