The varsity girls’ water polo lost to El Segundo High School 19-0 during their home game yesterday, Jan. 30. This was Beverly’s fourth loss this season.
But many on the team didn’t feel intimidated going into the game, even with El Segundo having a strong reputation in the sport. Currently, El Segundo is first in the Ocean League, and Beverly is in last at fourth.
Team member junior Juliette Collet joked, “We’re pumped because we are going to lose with style!”
Senior Grayson Moore was rather frank about the situation.
“We are playing a water polo game against El Segundo. We are losing badly already. They are a really good team, they’re first in the league. We are gonna try to work on our defense and work together, talk to each other. Work on passing, communication, these things are really important,” Moore said.
Moore knows how exhausting the sport can be, especially on a losing streak, but still find ways to enjoy it.
“It’s chaotic. You are being drowned and stabbed, but you are having fun because you are drowning and stabbing them [too],” Moore said.
Beverly will next be playing an away game with Santa Monica High School on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 3 p.m.
