Following the inauguration of President Donald Trump, Elon Musk is now set to have his own space and position in the White House. Musk is supposed to run the Department of Government Efficiency. Harvard defines this department as, “aimed at reducing the size of government and the federal workforce, scaling back regulations, and cutting trillions of dollars from the federal budget,”
Musk donated a quarter of a billion dollars to promote President Trump’s campaign during the election. He doesn’t have a qualified political background at all, yet President Trump has given him a government position for his loyalty.
Musk is the owner of SpaceX, a space technology company Though Musk is a successful businessman, he isn’t qualified to run a whole department. Another factor that is questionable is the fact that Musk wasn’t born in America. He was born in South Africa.
When asked if he likes Musk, junior Victor Celis said, “I like him, he’s a smart guy but shouldn’t be in the white house. He is too tech savvy and has no political background, He is not qualified. He just has money and a big company.”
Other students believe Musk deserves his new found position in the white house. Sophomore Ariya Naseri shared, “I believe Elon will do well, he is a very intelligent man with a good following of the amendments created by America. I think he knows what people need. I think Tesla was a small way of showing his ability to improve the country.”
What does Musk think about his new position? He stated that creating DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) was, “The only path to extending life beyond Earth.” Any major cuts to government agencies could also have potentially significant implications for his business interests, which are closely entwined with the government.”
Musk is known to have a very high ego. Along with Trump it could cause many different disagreements and conflicts in the White House. Musk and Trump are bound to have a fallout eventually due to them not being able to drop their egos, causing the downfall of our political system and country.
