The 2025 NBA Playoff Semifinals have been insane so far. From unexpected wins, injuries and upsets, this series is more than an NBA fan can ask for. There have been at least 20 games played across the four series so far, and there are many close series. A few teams are one win away from making it to the Conference Finals.
In the Eastern Conference, the Indiana Pacers pulled off a major upset against the Cleveland Cavaliers. On May 13, they won against the Cavaliers 114-105 in Game 5, led by Tyrese Haliburton, who dropped 31 points and hit six threes. Pascal Siakam also contributed with 25 points.
“I was not expecting the Indiana Pacers to beat Cleveland; however, this made the game unpredictable,” senior Daniel Farzadmehr said.
The New York Knicks are up 3-2 against the Boston Celtics. The series started with close games. Game 2 even went to double overtime, but things became different after Game 4, when Celtics star Jayson Tatum suffered a season-ending achilles injury. Without one of their top players, Boston’s offense will struggle, and the Knicks have a full advantage. With game 5 planned for May 14, the Knicks could be heading to the Eastern Conference Finals.
In the Western Conference, the Oklahoma City Thunder are in the lead against the defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets, with a lead of 3-2. Game 5 was played on May 13, ending with Oklahoma City winning 112-105. Game 6 will be played in Denver on May 15. This would send the Thunder to the Western Conference Finals if they win.
“I am ready, hoping that the Denver Nuggets will pick up their game and destroy Oklahoma City!” Senior Zanny Suber said.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are leading against the Golden State Warriors with the series record being 3-2. Minnesota took Game 5 from the Golden State Warriors. Game 6 of Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Golden State Warriors will take place May 18.
The only team that has officially advanced to the Conference Finals is the Pacers. The three teams that are one win away from making it to the Conference Finals are the Knicks, Thunder, and Timberwolves.
The 2025 NBA Semifinals have been full of surprises, turnarounds, and unexpected moments. With a few more games left, regardless of what happens, this postseason is already something to remember.
