The gym was packed, the basketball courts were full of cheers, and the energy was off the charts last Monday at the annual Staff vs. Senior Dodgeball game. It’s one of the most hyped up events of the year, where 15 seniors take on 15 staff members in a battle, the prize being bragging rights.
This year, the seniors came out swinging. In the first round, they dominated, taking down the teachers with some great throws and quick reflexes.
“We were so energized after that first win,” senior Logan Chong said. “Honestly, we thought we were unbeatable at that point.”
The seniors wanted more. Instead of stopping at one round, they asked for a second. That’s when things took a turn for the worse. The staff, mostly made up of counselors and a couple of surprisingly competitive teachers, regrouped and came back hard. They took the second round, tying things up 1-1.
Not wanting to end in a tie, both teams agreed on a third and final round. The gym got even louder as the crowd cheered on the seniors. In the end, the staff pulled off the win, leaving the seniors stunned but still laughing.
“We probably should have told them to stop after that first round,” senior Diya Tuli said. “But honestly, I have no regrets. I had a great time, it was so much fun, and the teachers definitely surprised us.”
Even though the seniors didn’t come out on top, the event was a win for the whole school. It brought together students, teachers, and any other Beverly staff who wanted to come and support, all just there to have fun and cheer on their friends.
The Staff vs. Senior Dodgeball game has been a tradition at Beverly for years, and it’s one that keeps bringing people back. Whether you’re on the court or just watching from the sidelines, it’s all about school spirit, having a good time, and making memories.
Maybe next year’s seniors will take back the title, but for now, the teachers get to hold onto their bragging rights.
