On May 1, Beverly held a carnival on the Nickoll Field to reward students for completing the CAASPP testing. The event took place on the field with thrilling rides and games throughout the afternoon. They brought popular attractions such as the zipper and the sizzler, along with a zipline, inflatable games and an obstacle course that kept the students entertained during the event.
Freshmen Veronika Liakh and Siiana Kuzmitska said how their favorite part of the event was the sizzler and the zipper. They also spoke about why they decided to go to the carnival, “We mostly came for the food, and because the carnival is only once a year,” said Kuzmitska. Liakh added ,“It was really fun and amazing, I would rate it 9/10”.
Beyond the rides, there was free food and drinks from PTSA and the fire department. Brazil Club also was selling traditional Brazilian food and had a very popular acai truck.
Co-president of the Brazil club, senior Lucas Boneti said, “So the majority of the planning was through Daniel, the co-president. He had some connections with the Acai company, and then we pulled a few favors to help us out with the fair.” The food being sold was homemade, specifically the cheese bread and chocolate balls.
However, they weren’t just selling food, it was a fundraiser to raise money for an organization in Brazil. “This organization in Brazil basically helps provide… underserved… kids with the resources so that they can play soccer, and just be able to get more opportunities within Brazil”, said Boneti.
Through the acai truck, the club was able to take half of the proceeds, which gave them $500.
In addition to students, teachers also played a role in making the carnival possible. Biology and Robotics Teacher John Castle II said, “I think the carnival is great. It’s really awesome seeing the students have a lot of fun.”
Despite missing out on the rides, he supports continuing to hold this event every year, “I think kids really enjoy it, and it’s a great celebration for all your hard work.”
Junior Maya Jackson shared her thoughts on the carnival. Jackson said that her favorite ride was the sizzler and, “Even though not many people come [this year], it’s still fun for people.”
Jackson explained that because the carnival was after school, fewer students showed up compared to previous years, but it was still enjoyable.
Beverly’s CAASPP carnival allowed students to have some fun and celebrate finishing the state testing. From exciting rides to food and activities, the event created a nice atmosphere for students and teachers who attended. Although some students hope for more attendance and more food or rides next year, many agreed that the carnival should continue for many years to come as a rewarding tradition for Beverly students.
