On Feb. 12, the girls’ varsity soccer team had a home game against Knights High School. The game had ended tied 1-1, but Beverly won with penalty kicks during overtime. This game was a part of the CIF Southern Section Girls’ Soccer Championship (California) Division 6.

The girls’ varsity soccer team captain, Honor Maurer, said, “It’s an environment where you’re not afraid to make mistakes. Whenever someone makes a mistake on the field, you can always hear other players lifting them up. It’s a team where you can show up on a really bad day and leave feeling ten times better.”

Parents and students filled the seats, cheering for our school. The cheers filled the ears of our team, motivating them to push for the win.

Freshman Kgali Rapia said, “When I watched the game, it was really good. They showed a lot of teamwork, which I love. They also communicated a lot, and they seem like a good team to play with.”

For the first half of the game, the score was tied 0-0. Still, Beverly was able to keep the opponent away until the second half, where Beverly and the Knights scored a point each. Neither team was able to get another point before the timer ended, so they went into overtime. During the shootouts, Beverly was able to score four penalty kicks compared to the Knights’ two penalty kicks. 

The game was competitive and neck-to-neck. The varsity team was determined to win and gave it their all. Even though the opposing team was tough, the team never gave up and kept on going, which gave them the win. 

Freshman Brooklynn Walton said, “We performed really well, with a lot of intensity throughout the game, and our energy was really good, we had a lot of connection, and support from on the bench.”

To summarize, the team played very well with lots of teamwork and commitment. With all their determination, they ended up winning the game.
