Boys varsity tennis pulled out a 16-2 home victory over Fountain Valley during the first round of CIF on Wednesday and will advance to the round of 16.
The team was forced to play without junior Jack Harris due to injury.
“Overall the team played well, considering we played with an improvised lineup,” co-captain Adriano Saitta said.
This CIF matchup has helped co-captain Johnny Barcohana to grow as a competitor.
“I think I always go out there trying my best and trying to fight for every point,” Barcohana said. “This experience grew me closer with my squad.”
Saitta, who won all three of his doubles match-ups, largely attributes the win to an abundance of experienced players.
“As a team we were really able to use our experience and grind out close sets,” Saitta said. “This came from the amount of upperclassmen we have on the team.”
The team’s next CIF matchup is at Mira Costa on Friday. Beverly lost the last time these teams faced one another, but the team is “staying optimistic” today.
